Classic Scalloped Potatoes
🧾 Ingredients:
- 4 large potatoes (thinly sliced)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 2 cups milk
- 2 garlic cloves (minced)
- Salt & black pepper
- 1 small onion (thinly sliced, optional)
👨🍳 Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add flour and whisk for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually add milk while whisking until smooth and thickened.
- Stir in garlic, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the potatoes in a greased baking dish (add onions if using).
- Pour half of the sauce over the potatoes.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes and sauce.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 20–25 minutes until tender and lightly golden.
🔥 Tips:
- Slice potatoes very thin for even cooking.
- Let it rest 10 minutes before serving for a perfect texture.
- You can add a little cheese if you want a hybrid version 😉

- Potatoes au Gratin → richer, with cheese and a golden crust
